Origin: Airedale terrier, bred in Yorkshire, England, in the 1800s to hunt otters and rats in rivers and fields. Known as the “King of Terriers.”

Size: 50–70 pounds; stands 21–23 inches tall.

Lifespan: 11–14 years.

Temperament: Alert, courageous, and independent, yet loving with family.
